Counting the number of homeless people in Jersey City will help City Officials understand what it will take to help those in need.
In addition to performing the count, there will also be clothing & food distribution, dental and medical services & HIV/AIDs testing. Other Non-profit groups that specialize in connecting homeless peopl...e to job programs will also be present.
Help volunteer if you can!

Last year, Hudson County's one-day homeless count tallied 1,779 individuals.
This year, Hudson County Division of Community Development's annual Point in Time Homeless Count takes place Wednesday on the streets and in the gymnasium of the former YMCA building on Bergen Avenue in Jersey City.
The event, in which both sheltered and unsheltered homeless are counted, serves many functions, according to Joanne Smith, a volunteer organizer with the Hudson County Alliance to End Homelessness.
Services provided during the day include clothing and food distribution, dental and medical attention, HIV/AIDs testing, and the availability of non-profit groups that specialize in connecting homeless people to job programs.
"Just counting people seems so hollow, this is a way to actually accomplish something and hook people up with services," Smith said.
According to Susan Milan, a coordinator with the alliance, the count will be handled in two phases.
During the day, volunteers will count homeless people who show up to the gym at 654 Bergen Ave. between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Milan said.
Later in the evening, trained volunteers will take to the streets to count homeless people they find, she said, noting volunteers will be given identification information to prevent double counting.

More snow on Wednesdy?
What they're saying...
"If the storm hugs the coastline, a lot of New Jersey could see a wintry mix with heavy snow falling much farther inland. But if the storm tracks a bit more to the east, the state could get clobbered with another round of heavy snow."

Only 5% Down on a 2-unit Condo Building???
I'm hearing that lenders are a losening up a bit and there are more options out there are have not been available in the past couple of years. A lender that I work with just told me he recently closed a condo sale in Weehawken (which only consisted of 2 units) with only 5% down using one of their bank portfolios!
That's incredible news!
Looking forward to a great 2011~

NJ Grant May Allow "100 Steps" Heights Project to Get Back on Track!
From Tues, Jan 4, 2011 Jersey Journal
The "100 Steps" project that will connect the Jersey City Heights to a Hoboken Light Rail station may soon get back on track thanks to a New Jersey grant, according to today's Jersey Journal.
Jersey City's plans to use the state grant will take the long-delayed project out of the hands of a private developer, the Journal says.
Brass Works Urban Renewal LLC, developer of The Cliffs, has been on the hook for the project since 2005, when the city Zoning Board granted variances for the then-condominium complex in exchange for several public improvements, reports say.
The improvements were to be made concurrent with construction of The Cliffs, which opened as a rental building in 2008 at 100 Paterson Plank Road, across from the Second Street Light Rail Station.
According to a Aug. 11, 2005 redevelopment agreement signed by Jersey City officials and Brass Works, the developer bears the "sole cost and expense" of restoring the "100 Steps" or "Franklin Street Steps," which were originally built more than a century ago and torn down in the 1990s.
Rising costs and trouble receiving funds, however, have hampered the project's progress.
George Garcia, an attorney for Brass Works, said the total cost of job is estimated at $450,000 to $500,000.
"I think the grant is helpful, but we need to work out a couple of things with the city," Garcia said. "We've already done a lot of work on it. Hopefully it will be done in the next year (2011)."
The Riverview Neighborhood Association delivered a petition to the city earlier this year seeking action on the stalled project.
RNA President Becky Hoffman said her group is concerned about cost overruns and wants written assurance from the city that the project will be completed.
